John McLaughlin is a guitar legend known for his speed, complex rhythms and sophisticated harmonic sensibility. The Mahavishnu Orchestra fused together styles of rock, jazz and world music and were innovators of a new style of music that came out in the early 70's called jazz fusion.

Notice the complex rhythms and how the group goes from very orchestrated and rehearsed passages to open soloing. He is still active and playing today.
