Baden Powell

The first guitarist we are featuring in the catchall Other section is one of my personal heroes and influences, the Brazilian guitar genius Baden Powell. He had an elegant blend of classical technique, jazz improvisational skills and incredible Brazilian rhythmical intensity. This piece is one of his original compositions and I chose it because it shows a blend of his classical technique and complex rhythmic playing. Watch his right hand and listen to the sounds coming out of the guitar. It's very powerful and sophisticated playing.

Unfortunately, Baden died close to 10 years ago, but his influence on the current generation of Brazilian guitarists is quite prominent.
